Master's Degree (Magna Cum Laude) of Science in Oriental Medicine & Acupuncture

Besides my formal education, I have completed extensive independent coursework totaling over 3500 hours. Much of this training is in Classical Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture, Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture, as well as Autonomic Response Testing (ART) and various systems of muscle testing.
I combine training and experience in advanced styles of acupuncture with 20+ years of experience and practice of advanced kinesiological reflex testing and Western Holistic Healthcare.
My passion for helping people and figuring out health puzzles stems from my own history of serious health problems and pain, which I successfully overcame, thankfully. This experience was one of my greatest teachers.
What I Do ...
After studying many different styles and approaches to Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, I have settled on those that I have found to be the most efficient and effective. These include ...
Saam Classical Chinese Acupuncture
There are many 'styles' or approaches to acupuncture. All are based upon classical principles to some degree or another. I have found Saam Acupuncture to be both the most comprehensive and classically-based system as well as the most extraordinary in getting great clinical results. Saam acupuncture addresses a person's deep constitutional issues and 'Qi Dynamics' (making sure things are moving and functioning the right way). This approach uses very few needles and gives the body a very clear stimulus to: warm up, cool down, move things that are stuck or consolidate things that are too scattered, to nourish tissues or to drain excess fluids, etc. After 17 years of studying and practicing different acupuncture systems, I cannot speak highly enough of Saam Acupuncture in terms of getting deep, lasting results.
(I use other acupuncture styles and techniques as needed. See 'Continuing Education' below for other styles of acupuncture that I have trained in and practice.)
Autonomic Response Testing
Going back to the 1960's, Dr George Goodheart discovered that the body's Nervous System communicates valuable information through kinesiogical muscle testing. He and several of his colleagues subsequently developed Applied Kinesiology (AK) as a revolutionary diagnostic system. Even earlier, French physician Dr. Paul Nogier discovered in the 1950's that these types of Autonomic Nervous System responses could be detected through the pulse and developed 'Vascular Arterial Signal' (VAS) pulse diagnosis. From these early discoveries, a potent new type of medical assessment was born in which a practitioner could non-invasively gather important information to help ascertain where and what the problem was and, thus, more precisely address it. 'Autonomic Response Testing' (ART) is a term coined by Dr Dietrich Klinghardt, MD. ART represents numerous methods of autonomic nervous system biofeedback tests and challenges that give practitioners a powerful tool to find and fix the root cause of problems rather than just chase symptoms.
I have found Autonomic Response Testing invaluable to my practice of Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine. There are so many competing approaches to acupuncture and medicine that one can really get lost in all of the theory. Instead of dogmatically sticking to a potentially inaccurate theory, diagnosis, or treatment approach and hoping it works, ART allows one to discern in real time what the patient's Autonomic Nervous System is revealing. This has been of monumental importance in my practice and has helped me to figure out and solve very difficult cases. It can be truly said that "The body doesn't lie." The body tells us what we need to know if we know how to 'ask' and translate.
German Auricular Medicine
The founder of Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture was French medical Dr Paul Nogier. Nogier's work was greatly advanced by a brilliant German physician, Dr Frank Bahr, MD. Dr Bahr and several of his colleagues used Dr Nogier's primary findings to develop an elaborate and precise system of medicine based upon VAS pulse diagnosis, Chinese Medical theory, modern Western Medicine, psychology, homeopathy, frequency medicine, and more. German Auricular Medicine (GAM) is a complete system of assessment and treatment designed to find and remove 'hidden blockages' to healing. I have found this approach of identifying and resolving hidden blockages one of the most important concepts in medicine -- especially in helping people with difficult, non-responsive conditions. Hidden blockages that cause dysregulation in the autonomic nervous system (and thus ill health), can include scars, old injuries, unresolved emotions, trauma, infections and toxicity. German Auricular Medicine gives a powerful system to identify these blockages and remove them.
The ear is an acupuncture 'micro-system,' meaning that the entire body is projected onto a small part of the body. (Other micro-systems include the scalp, abdomen, hand and foot). After studying and practicing multiple micro-systems for years, I have found the ear to be the most potent and comprehensive, probably because the ear is innervated by nerves that source directly from the brain. This allows the ear to transmit direct signals outward to be assessed as well as potent signals inward when treated. This direct stimulation of the autonomic and central nervous system via the ear can result in profound and lasting treatments. German Auricular Medicine is particularly good at releasing trauma and psycho-emotional distress that is underlying much disease and dysfunction. (Currently, the US Veteran's Administration recognizes auricular acupuncture as effective and offers it for veterans suffering PTSD).
'Sports Acupuncture' / Myofascial Release / Prolo-Acupuncture
While the Chinese understood and certainly practiced physical myofascial and structural release techniques, our understanding of human physical anatomy has become far more advanced in modern times. Combining ancient Chinese knowledge and wisdom with modern Western anatomical understanding has greatly advanced our ability to release deeply held tension patterns in the fascia and soft tissues of the body so that blood and Qi can flow properly and the body can heal itself and pain can be resolved. By using these acupuncture techniques to release trigger points and reset motor points, the fascia of the body can lengthen out to it's natural length and suppleness.
Such release techniques can powerfully and lastingly change our structural alignment by releasing held tension and pain patterns in the muscles and connective tissue that decide our structural health. I have found that these techniques work particularly good in helping chiropractic or osteopathic adjustments hold. I have also found that these techniques combined with specific trauma points can greatly help release chronic pain patterns that develop after motor vehicle accidents and other physical and psychological trauma.
Classical Chinese Herbal Medicine
Classical Chinese herbalism is very sophisticated. Formulas are prescribed based upon a person's individual constitution and "disease pattern". This individualized approach is fundamental to getting good results with herbal medicine. This involves properly assessing the patient's "pattern" of disease and determining which organs and systems are deficient and which need to be cleared of pathogenic factors. When the right organs and systems are nourished and strengthened and unhealthful factors are cleared, the body goes about the business of healing itself and functioning properly, resulting in feeling more vibrant and becoming symptom free. Classical Chinese Medical approaches can help patients with many conditions, including chronic digestive issues, fatigue, chronic infections, and autoimmune disorders.
